An Audubon Important Bird Area

Blacks Creek Reservoir and the nearly 600 acres surrounding it serve as crucial habitat for over 150 bird species, but was misused and treated as a dumping ground for years. In 2007, GEAS began forming partnerships to clean up and protect this unique place. After years of work, hundreds of volunteer hours, and numerous partnerships including the Bureau of Land Management and the Idaho Department of Fish and Game, the Reserve was officially dedicated on Earth Day in 2013.

Blacks Creek Bird Reserve is now recognized as an Audubon Important Bird Area and protected from further habitat degradation. The site is accessible by foot and horseback, through trails and designated parking lots.
