Summer Warblers in SW Idaho

Nashville Warbler, Photo Credit: Mick Thompson

Class Description: This virtual class will introduce the warblers commonly found in southwestern Idaho during the summer. We will touch on warbler taxonomy, what to notice in a warbler to identify it, provide a basic understanding of sonograms, and describe 10 warblers and one former warbler in detail. Participants can then test their knowledge with quiz birds, although songs will not be included in the quiz. The class will list additional resources should participants wish to learn more. Class participants can also attend an in-person field trip on either May 21 or May 25 to practice what you learned in the field.

Instructor Bio: Louisa Evers is an experienced birder who retired from the Bureau of Land Management at the end of 2018 and moved to the Treasure Valley in mid-2019. She quickly joined Golden Eagle Audubon and the Southwestern Idaho Birders Association and is active in both organizations. Louisa has a Bachelor's in Forestry from the University of Tennessee, Master's in Forestry with an emphasis in Fire Ecology from the University of Idaho, and a PhD in Environmental Sciences with an emphasis in Rangeland Ecology from Oregon State University.
