A healthy insect population is the key to a healthy habitat patch. Not only do you have to attract a wide diversity of insects to your yard, you need to keep them safe. Aaron Anderson from the Xerces Society will share his insect expertise with you. Aaron will go into some detail on why insects are important so you can convince insect-adverse friends. Find out what you can do to attract insects and provide them with habitat for all their life stages. Learn about the value of attracting insects that aren't pollinators - like aphids. Aaron will also help you identify insects that are pests and explain how to control them. Bring your questions.
Aaron Anderson works with the public and Xerces staff to reduce pesticide use in residential landscapes, including promoting alternative pest control measures and pollinator-friendly gardening practices. Prior to joining Xerces in 2022, he researched pollinator conservation in urban landscapes, restored habitat for several endangered butterfly species, and worked in insect biocontrol.
This is a free workshop for Habitat Patch participants. Email Liz for the registration link.
